Lecture and Book Presentation
In the 1960s, young men from Mojstrana and Dovje tested and sharpened their courage by climbing their local rock walls, skiing, or jumping in nearby Planica. After honing their skills in their local environment, their climbing ambitions led them to Durmitor, the Dolomites, and beyond. Inspired by the famous Cortina Squirrels in Cortina d’Ampezzo, they started wearing red sweaters embroidered with the Squirrels’ emblem and named themselves the Mojstrana Squirrels. Members of the group—Klavdij Mlekuž, Zvone Kofler, Janko Ažman, Janez Brojan, Janez Dovžan, and Miha Smolej—went on to become accomplished alpinists, skiers, mountain rescuers, and organizers of sporting events.
After the lecture, Blaž Lesnik will talk with the Mojstrana Squirrels and the book’s editor, Vladimir Habjan.
The event will feature the book Mojstranške veverice (The Mojstrana Squirrels).
The event will be held in Slovenian.
