Mikhail Fomin: They call me Misha

Ukrainian alpinist who, together with his friends, decided not to participate in traditional heavyweight command-style national expeditions and instead got into low-budget alpine style climbs in the Himalayas financed out of their own pockets. In 2016, this proved to be the right approach as, together with his friend Mykyta Balabanov, Misha received the first Ukrainian Piolet d’Or for the new line on the North-West spur of Talung, Kanchenjunga, Nepal. Another notable ascent was the South-East spur of Annapurna III in 2021, which won Misha and his friends a Piolet d’Or Special Jury Award.
