Lecture: Domen Škofic

Country: Slovenia
Category: Lectures, Accompanying program

Balance between pure joy and an overwhelming desire to push the limits

Domen Škofic was born in Ljubljana, but he’s been living in Vrbnje near Radovljica all of his life. Before he started climbing, he used to ski a lot, but as his climbing became more serious, there wasn’t enough time for skiing anymore. At the age of fourteen he became a member of Slovenia youth climbing team and just a year later he climbed his first 9a. When high school ended he said good-bye to youth climbing, as he’d already been a member of the senior team for three years. He soon became a professional climber doing interesting projects, climbing world-class routes, and standing on the top of the podium at a World Cup event. His hardest route to date is Papichulo 9a+, but who knows what the future still holds…

Lecture: Hazel Findlay

Hazel Findlay has been climbing for 20 of her 26 years, and started out trad climbing on the Welsh limestone sea cliffs. She dabbled in competition climbing, but at 16 decided to give it up to focus on climbing on rock, especially trad climbing which is her main passion. Hazel has been a full time climber for the last four years, which has allowed her to travel all over the world. She was the first British woman to climb a trad route at E9, and free El Capitan in Yosemite, which she has now done three times. Hazel has also red pointed 8c and onsighted many 8as, loves all types of climbing and is especially interested in the mental challenge that climbing evokes.

Alaska Alpine Style

Jack Tackle has climbed numerous new routes in Alaska and other mountain ranges all over the world. He’s been to the Himalaya, Patagonia, European Alps, Canada, Alaska, Pakistan… He’s given lectures at the Banff Film Festival, Trento Film Festival, and at National Geographic in Washington DC. In his lecture he’ll focus on seven significant first ascents he did in Alaska, on hard new routes he climbed in Canada, and on other important alpine-style ascents. The central theme of his lecture, which is important for climbers and non-climbers alike, is that self-reliance and commitment to the goal are imperative. Commitment, vision, and trust are the three key elements of any alpine-style climb, and trust in yourself and your partner is essential.
